Four Seasons in Iowa: Pastel Paintings by Marcia Wegman
Four Seasons in Iowa has concluded, but we continue to carry Marcia Wegman's work. Our current exhibit is Handmade for the Holidays, on view through December 31. Check our blog and Facebook page for further updates!
Pastel paintings by award-winning local artist Marcia Wegman will be featured in an exhibit, Four Seasons in Iowa, at Iowa Artisans Gallery, October 7 – November 6. The artist will be honored at the opening reception during the Downtown Iowa City Gallery Walk, October 7, 5-8pm, at 12 locations in downtown Iowa City.
Wegman is featured in an upcoming 8-page article in International Artist Magazine. This “how to” article will show the “step by step” process leading to the finished painting. Six other paintings will be included. Wegman says, “I am very honored and excited because it is a beautiful magazine and internationally distributed.” Wegman has won many awards at exhibitions across the country. She was also featured in Pastel Journal, as well as in Iowa Pastel Landscapes, a book published locally in 2014 by Penfield Press.
“The Midwest landscape has surrounded me all my life, first in Ohio, then in Iowa. I delight in showing with my paintings that Iowa is anything but boring as many people perceive it to be. Observing the light, color and forms in the sky throughout the day, and the year, has become a very major part of my discipline as an artist. The sky is a very important element in all my paintings. Since I work totally from photographs I have taken, I have the liberty to pair any sky with any land. A change in the sky has the potential to change an ordinary landscape into something of breathtaking beauty. The drama can be heightened by the way the light, and thus the shadows, are depicted.
Pastels lend themselves to developing the ephemeral aspects of light and color in the landscape. I enjoy challenging myself in constantly finding new ways to explore the forms, rhythm, lines, repetition, light and color in the Iowa landscape.”
Daily hours are Monday through Friday 10am-6pm; Saturday 10am-5:30pm and Sunday 12-4pm. For more information, including what other pieces we might have in stock, please email or contact the Gallery at 319-351-8686.
